It’s coming up to Easter and you may be looking to take advantage of the long weekend and get away with your family. It would be great to go abroad but can you really afford it? And although it’s a long weekend it may be uneconomical to go abroad – travelling can eat into your time and make it feel like a normal weekend!

Instead, why not rent a holiday cottage in England or a holiday cottage in Scotland and enjoy a ‘staycation’ at home? It’s a great way to get away and really feel like you’ve had a break without the considerable expense of air travel and a foreign hotel. There are some great opportunities for families to have fun together – we’re talking about the traditional activities that you don’t seem to see nowadays, such as kayaking, canoeing, pony trekking and more. With four days of relaxation, these are a great, inexpensive way for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Here are some great Easter events happening around the country over Easter:

Easter Wonderland at Colchester Zoo
1st April to 18th April: Stunning Easter scenes combined with an Easter Wonderland walk and a bunch of newly born animals make this a fantastic outing for all the family.

Spring into Easter at Leeds Castle, Kent
2nd April – 5th April: Craft marquee and Easter egg trail should appeal to the children in your life. And you can’t get more beautiful surroundings than Leeds Castle in the heart of Kent.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Birdworld, Farnham
7th April: This annual event is a real treat and offers a colossal Easter egg hunt for kids. Successful scavengers are rewarded, and you can break up the hunt with a visit to many of Birdworld’s cute avian residents.

  1. British cottages are some of the oldest and most comfortable accommodations you can get. Great for families and getting away from it all because nearly all cottages are located in the beautiful countryside.
